CTEK NXT 5 Charger Reviewed For Mixed Garages

The CTEK NXT 5 targets riders and drivers who want one charger for everything. It supports 12V lead acid and LiFePO4 batteries. It delivers 0.8A in motorcycle mode and up to 5A in car mode. It can maintain batteries up to 160Ah.

John from Bennett’s used it for seven months on bikes, cars and leisure batteries. It handled all without issue. A 9Ah bike battery would take about 11 hours to charge in motorcycle mode. A 45Ah car battery would take about nine hours in car mode.

The unit is IP65 rated. It resists rain and dust. It includes reverse polarity and short circuit protection. It can recover lead acid batteries from as low as 2V. Claimed ripple sits under 4 percent, well within safe limits.

It does not auto switch between battery types. The fly lead has no fuse. The connector lacks SAE compatibility.

At £109.99, it costs more than basic chargers. It adds lithium support, solid output and a five year warranty. For mixed garages, it covers most needs with one device.

My two cents…

The CTEK NXT 5 is for the rider or driver who wants one charger to rule them all and be done with it. It handles 12V lead acid and LiFePO4, pushing 0.8A in motorcycle mode and 5A for cars, maintaining batteries up to 160Ah. In theory, that is your whole garage sorted. Very Marie Kondo, but with cables. John used it for seven months on bikes, cars and leisure batteries. No drama. A 9Ah bike battery took around 11 hours, a 45Ah car battery about nine. Slow burn, not microwave popcorn. It is IP65 rated, shrugs off rain and dust, and packs reverse polarity and short circuit protection. It can revive lead acid from 2V, with ripple under 4 percent. Nice. Downsides. No auto switching between battery types. No fuse on the fly lead. No SAE connector. At £109.99 it is not cheap, but with lithium support and a five year warranty, it feels more X Files than bargain bin at Blockbuster. For mixed garages, one box does the lot.
