Harley Softail Gets Roomier Viking Saddlebags Upgrade

The owner of a 2004 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic wanted more storage and a cleaner look. His original saddlebags had worn out. He chose the Viking Lamellar Stallion leather covered hard saddlebags. The pair costs 424.99 dollars and offers 44 liters of capacity. His stock bags held 34 liters.

The extra space matters. He often rides with his wife. Two riders need room for jackets, gloves, and small gear. The Viking bags can hold an XL Highway 21 Motordrome jacket with liner and armor, plus a travel tumbler. That solves a daily problem.

The bags match the curve of the rear fender and fit the bike’s classic style. They include key locks, a tighter weather seal, an interior organizer, foam liner, reflective side markers, and a quick latch system. The latch feels solid in use.

Installation took under an hour. He marked drill points, mounted the brackets, and secured the bags. A second person helps hold them in place.

He notes the leather covering feels thin and may add extra protection on the leading edge. Overall, the upgrade delivers more space and a fresh look for a well kept Softail.

My two cents…

The owner of a 2004 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic wanted more storage and less dad garage energy. His old saddlebags were toast. Enter the Viking Lamellar Stallion leather covered hard bags. Price tag 424.99 dollars. Capacity jumps from 34 liters to 44. Math that actually matters. He rides with his wife, so space is not optional. Jackets, gloves, random life stuff. The new bags swallow an XL Highway 21 Motordrome jacket with liner and armor plus a travel tumbler. Problem solved. Marriage saved. Probably. They hug the rear fender, keep the classic vibe, and add locks, better seals, organizer, foam, reflectors, quick latch. Install took under an hour. Leather feels thin though. He might reinforce it. Still, solid glow up.
