The BikeMike is back. Oxford Products has relaunched its classic rider to pillion communication unit, originally a best seller in the UK and export markets when it first appeared. The simple setup used a pocket worn unit with two springy cables linking rider and passenger so they could talk while riding.
An improved Mk2 came in 1992 with better build quality and slimmer headphones. The Mk3 followed in 2004, smaller than before with upgraded electronics and the brand’s first rider to rider Bike2Bike system. By 2006 the Mk4 arrived, designed using CAD with more features and sharper earphone tech aimed at riders who wanted music on the move.
Production of the BikeMike stopped in 2016, when it was selling for £59.99. Now, a decade on, it has returned at a lower price of £49.99.
The relaunch keeps things simple, giving riders an easy way to talk to their passenger without relying on phone pairing or apps. For anyone running an older bike without built in intercom options, it offers a straightforward plug in solution.
My two cents…
Oxford Products dragged the BikeMike out of retirement. Remember wired Walkmans? Same energy. Rider and pillion gab through springy cables, no Bluetooth pairing drama, no app nonsense. It started strong in the UK, then leveled up through Mk2, Mk3, Mk4, adding rider to rider chat and sharper earphones, basically a slow motion gadget glow up.
