Shoei has unveiled a new helmet visor insert called e:DRYLENS. It is designed to help riders deal with changing light conditions using electronic dimming technology. The insert fits Shoei’s CWR-F2 and CWR-F2R shields, which are used on a few of the company’s helmet models.
The e:DRYLENS uses dimmable liquid crystal film developed by Dai Nippon Printing. Riders can adjust the tint manually or let it dim automatically. The unit charges via USB-C, runs for about 20 hours, and takes three hours to recharge.
Shoei says the e:DRYLENS maintains clear vision while adding sun protection, aiming to reduce visor swaps or the need for sunglasses. This could benefit riders who wear prescription glasses or ride in variable weather.
Preorders in Japan start January 9, 2026. The price is set at 27,500 yen, about 176.50 US dollars. Shoei has not shared information on international availability.
My two cents…
This looks very cool, even a little expensive.
It snaps into select Shoei shields and uses some fancy liquid crystal film from Dai Nippon Printing, yes, the same kind of tech that makes sci-fi sunglasses look easy. USB-C charge, 20-hour run, three-hour refill.
Whether it’s the next big thing or another gadget collecting dust, well, ask your inner Knight Rider.
