Motorcycle theft in the UK remains high. MCIA data shows theft fell 7.9 percent through 2024. Fewer stolen bikes are being recovered. Many are shipped abroad. Thieves work fast. They carry tools. They target weak security.
Riders can act. Layer security. Make theft slow and loud.
Start with visibility. Use a bike cover. It costs little and hides value. Lock it through the front wheel. Store the bike in a garage or shed when possible. Fit a closed shackle padlock and a ground anchor.
Add physical locks. Use a disc lock when out. Choose one with an alarm. At home, fit a heavy chain secured to an anchor. Three locks take time to defeat. Time creates risk.
Fit an alarm with tilt sensing. A 110 decibel siren draws attention. Thieves avoid noise.
Track the bike. A GPS tracker gives live location if the worst happens. The Monimoto 9 costs 149 pounds plus 39 pounds per year. It runs on its own battery and calls the owner if the bike moves without the key fob nearby.
Layer it all. Make your bike harder to steal than the next one.
My two cents…
Motorcycle theft in the UK is still humming along like it is 1997 and someone just discovered bolt cutters. MCIA says theft dipped 7.9 percent through 2024. Great. Except fewer bikes come home, and plenty are boxed up and shipped abroad. Thieves move fast, bring tools, and love flimsy security. Easy wins. So make yours annoying. Start with a cover. Cheap, boring, effective. Lock through the front wheel. Garage it if you can. Add a ground anchor and a proper padlock. Yes, plural locks. Think Home Alone, but for grownups. Disc lock with an alarm. Heavy chain at home. Loud 110 decibel siren. GPS tracker like Monimoto 9. Layer it. Make their life harder than the next bike. Petty? Sure. Smart? Absolutely.
