Honda CRF300L Rally Gains Durable Protection Upgrades

The Ultimate Motorcycling Honda CRF300L Rally Project Bike took a hit early in testing. A cracked OEM skid plate and front cowl cost $162 to replace. To prevent more expensive damage, the team called SRC Moto in Pendleton, Oregon. The advice was clear. Add the SRC Crash Bars/Engine Guard with Integrated Skid Plate and install the SRC Headlight Guard before something worse happens.

The crash bars and plate, priced at $448, weigh about 13 pounds. They protect the exhaust header and cases from rocks and branches. The $98 headlight guard shields a $770 headlight from debris and roost.

Installation took about an hour. The process became easier after pairing the 10-page manual with SRC’s online video tutorial. The setup fits 2021 and newer Honda CRF300L Rally models and provides extra mounting points for highway pegs and auxiliary lights. Plastic bar pads help preserve the finish during tip-overs.

The headlight guard, made of 14-gauge steel, installs in ten minutes. It also doubles as a mount point for a dash cam.

The added protection increases weight, a concern on smaller adventure bikes. Still, the trade-off feels worthwhile. The improved armor now keeps the Rally safer and better equipped for rugged use.

My two cents…

Not a lot to add, it’s a skid pan or bash plate, take your pick.
