Datatag Vs Datatool DNA Theft Protection Review

Datatag Vs Datatool DNA Motorcycle Theft Protection Review

John Milbank reviewed two motorcycle marking systems, Datatag and Datatool DNA, to see which offers stronger protection against theft. Vehicle marking systems make it easier for police to identify stolen bikes and parts. Datatag has long been the market leader and comes fitted as standard on many new motorcycles, known as the Datatag Master system. Datatool DNA is a newer, self-fit option aimed at being quicker and cheaper to install.

Datatag uses RFID chips, UV etchings, and microdots in a unique chemical carrier. Its Master version includes a visible sticker with a QR code for instant checks. Datatool DNA uses microdots and an NFC chip that police can scan with a smartphone, though early tests showed the chip could be reprogrammed in some versions. Datatool says that later production kits are locked.

Police have Datatag scanners across all UK forces. Officers can also use UV lights or visible labels to confirm ownership. Datatag systems take longer to install but offer more traceable components. Datatool DNA installs in minutes.

Datatag delivers fuller coverage and proven technology. Datatool DNA remains a simpler, lower-cost alternative for riders looking for basic deterrence.

My two cents…

Another excellent video from John at Bennet’s Social. Well worth a watch if you are in the market for some stealthy theft protection for the love of your life.

Who wins? Datatag’s thorough but slow. Datatool’s cheap, fast, and fine.
