Sena just rolled out the Spider X Slim, and it’s basically helmet comms on a diet. The company isn’t rewriting the rulebook, they’re just trimming the fat off something riders already know.
The core setup stays familiar. You get a unit mounted outside your helmet, loaded with the circuitry needed to link up to your phone or other comms. What’s different here is the battery. Instead of cramming it into the main unit like most comms do, Sena separated it out entirely. It’s hard wired to the comm piece and can sit either inside or outside your helmet, wherever you’d rather have the bulk.
Less hardware sticking out means less wind resistance and a cleaner look overall, something plenty of riders will appreciate.
There’s a catch though. The Spider X Slim only does Mesh network communication, period. No standard Bluetooth pairing with other comm brands. It runs on Sena’s Mesh 3.0 system, giving riders the choice between a closed network (just your chosen group) or an open one, where anyone nearby with open mesh turned on can join the conversation.
Swappable faceplates let you switch up the color too, if that matters to you.
My two cents…
Sena's Spider X Slim: comms on a diet, not a revolution. Same helmet mounted brains, but they yanked the battery out, wired it separate, tucked inside or out. Less wind drag, less bulk, more sleek. Catch? Mesh only, no Bluetooth buddies. Mesh 3.0, open or closed groups. Faceplates swap if you're vain.
