Insta360 just dropped its new flagship, the X6, marking ten years since the company got into 360 cameras. It hits shelves August 12, starting at $699.99, available through the Insta360 store, Amazon, and other retailers.
The big deal here is versatility. X6 works as a 360 camera, a subject tracking gimbal camera, and a regular action cam, switching between all three with a tap. That means one device can replace gear that used to take three separate cameras.
On the image side, X6 uses dual Sony 1 inch equivalent sensors, pulling in roughly four times the light of its predecessor. A new triple chip setup handles processing, giving a big jump in power while using less battery. It’s also the first 360 camera with native Dolby Vision built in.
Battery life got a boost too, with 140 minutes of 8K recording on a single charge. The lens is tougher and cheaper to swap out if scratched.
Insta360 already dominates the panoramic camera market, holding most of the global value share. With over 100 accessories supporting everything from diving to motorcycle riding, X6 looks built to keep that lead going.
My two cents…
Ten years deep into 360 cameras, Insta360 rolls out the X6. The pitch. One gadget, three jobs: 360 shooter, tracking gimbal, action cam. Tap a button, skip buying a camera bag full of redundant plastic. Convenient? Sure. Suspiciously convenient? I own an X5, amazing piece of kit!
