Rider Jonathan Schofield spent 12 months testing the Airhawk Cruiser Medium seat cover to see if it could improve long distance comfort. It costs £106.96 and targets riders who want relief without changing the whole seat.
Airhawk has supplied air cell cushions since 1997. The design uses an inflatable polyurethane pad with multiple air cells. A stretch fabric top, breathable mesh sides, and a non slip base keep it stable. Two adjustable straps secure it in minutes.
Setup is simple. Inflate the cushion. Sit on the bike. Release air until you sit about 5 to 10 mm above the original seat. It takes a few tries to get the pressure right.
The first ride feels unusual. The seat allows slight movement. After 100 miles Schofield felt some hip soreness as his body adjusted. Within a few rides he refined the air level and the benefit became clear.
On a 300 mile cruiser ride, the cushion reduced fatigue and pressure. It looked almost flat when set correctly, yet delivered steady support.
After a year of use, Schofield reports improved comfort with minimal fuss and no permanent changes to the bike.
My two cents…
Jonathan Schofield spent a full year parked on an Airhawk Cruiser Medium seat cover to see if £106.96 buys bliss or just placebo. The pitch is simple. More comfort. No need to rip apart your stock seat like some midlife makeover montage.Airhawk has been in the air cushion game since 1997. Inflatable polyurethane pad. Multiple air cells. Stretch top, breathable mesh sides, non slip base, two straps. Inflate it, sit down, bleed air until you hover 5 to 10 mm above the seat. Yes, it takes a few tries. Goldilocks rules apply.First ride feels weird. Slight movement. A hint of hip soreness after 100 miles. Then dial it in and boom. On a 300 mile run the cushion cut fatigue and pressure, looking almost flat while quietly doing its thing. After a year, Schofield says it delivers real comfort with zero drama. Sometimes boring fixes win.
